Viceroy Butterfly
— Closer to real this time? —
This is a 2015 Viceroy Butterfly. I finished work on this butterfly on December 30, 2015. I started work on this butterfly on December 05, 2015, but took time off to work on other things before getting back to it on December 29, 2015. All I had left to do was a few last minute adjustments to my earlier work on the 29th, and then smoothed out the rough edges on the 30th, as well as prepared the extra images show down in the lower section of this page.
My goal was to make a true-to-life Viceroy butterfly, this time. As I stated on the Red Butterfly page, I thought I was making a Monarch butterfly, back in 1999, but I was actually trying to make a Viceroy butterfly, so the end results of my first attempt at making a butterfly turned out to be a hybrid mix of Viceroy and Monarch butterfly.
I did the research, and I studied more pictures before making this Viceroy butterfly. I may still be off on some details, but I do believe I did a better job of making a true-to-life Viceroy butterfly this time.

— About my art —
The image to the left shows a few steps in the process of converting the old Red Butterfly template into a new Viceroy Butterfly template. By the time I was done, there was nothing left of the original template, thus, this Viceroy butterfly is a new butterfly, not just a new version of the old Red Butterfly. I also used different colors for the final finished version of the Viceroy Butterfly.
The image to the right shows the 1999 Red Butterfly template, on top (the template color was darkened in this image). I had thought I was going to just make a new version of the old template, to convert it into a true Viceroy butterfly template, but soon found that the need changes were far more extensive than I had though. By the time I was done, it was a new template, not just a revised template.
The bottom image is the finished Viceroy Butterfly template.
The image to the left is an alternate, false-color, blue version, of the 2015 Viceroy Butterfly.
I plan to add at least one or two other versions of this butterfly, to this page, in time. I want to make a true-color, red version of this Viceroy too. By the way, the Viceroy at the top of the page is in true-colors. Viceroy butterflies, in nature, come in a few different shades and colors.
