Viceroy
About the Viceroy butterfly
A butterfly that looks closer to the real thing this time? Well, not quite. I used the bottom wing colors on top, however, the wings and body shape do better resemble how a real viceroy butterfly looks.
This is a 2015 Viceroy butterfly. I started work on this butterfly on , and I finished work on this butterfly on . I had taken time off, to work on other things, before starting the finish work on . All I had left to do was a few last minute adjustments to my earlier work, smoothed out the rough edges, and then add a drop shadow.
My goal was to make a true–to–life Viceroy butterfly, this time, except for the wing colors. As I stated on the Red Butterfly page, I thought I had created a Monarch butterfly, back in 1999, but the butterfly I actually wanted to make was a Viceroy butterfly, so the end results of my first attempt at making a butterfly turned out to be a hybrid mix of Viceroy and Monarch butterfly.
I did the research, and I studied more pictures before making this Viceroy butterfly. I may still be off on some details, but I do believe I did a better job of making a true-to-life Viceroy butterfly this time.
